What Are The Health Risks With Cigars?

cigar smoking

One of the benefits of living in our modern age is that we can inform ourselves on the health risks (or lack thereof) of any activity, from unprotected sun exposure, to a nightly glass of whiskey before bed. As a cigar shop, we aren’t here to pretend there aren’t health risks associated with smoking tobacco, but let’s take a look at the actual health risks associated with smoking cigars.

First off, if you’re the type who inhales their cigars down into the lungs, the risks are on par with smoking cigarettes, and lessen depending on how infrequently you smoke them. Cigars can also lead to smoking cigarettes, whether you inhale them or not.

That’s the bad news. The good news is that for the majority of cigar smokers who do not inhale, the serious health risks are low to nonexistent, even if you smoke a cigar a day. The more cigars you smoke a day, the higher your risks for periodontal disease which can lead to tooth loss, and cancers of the mouth and throat.

If you’re concerned about the health risks with cigars, the key (as with anything) is in moderation. Too much of anything, even the sun, can be damaging. Cigars are an adult treat, and as adults, we can make our own decisions armed with knowledge about the associated risks.

We encourage you to do your own research into the health risks of cigars (and anything else you’re concerned about). For all your cigar supplies and questions, please stop into our shop today!
